Program Consultation: Theme-Based Learning for Center-Based Classrooms
This program consultation supports center-based autism classrooms in designing and implementing meaningful, engaging theme-based learning across the school day. Led by an autism consultant with over 10 years of experience working directly in center-based classrooms, this service bridges evidence-based practice with realistic, classroom-tested strategies.
The consultation focuses on embedding theme-based learning into academic instruction, daily routines, and therapeutic supports to increase student engagement, comprehension, and generalization of skills. Themes are used as a vehicle for learning—not the goal—allowing students with diverse needs, interests, and communication levels to access curriculum in a predictable and motivating way.
Consultation may include:
Review of current classroom structure, schedule, and instructional blocks
Support with selecting and adapting themes appropriate for student needs and developmental levels
Integration of themes across reading, writing, math, life skills, and social learning
Strategies for balancing student interests with shared classroom themes
Visual supports, routines, and environmental setup aligned with theme-based instruction
Differentiation strategies for mixed-ability and self-contained classrooms
Coaching on maintaining consistency while allowing flexibility within themes
Collaboration with teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers
This service is ideal for classrooms looking to:
Increase student engagement and participation
Build background knowledge and comprehension through repeated exposure
Create cohesion across academic and functional learning
Strengthen staff confidence and consistency in instruction
Ensure theme-based learning remains purposeful and accessible for students with autism
Consultation can be provided through on-site observation, planning sessions, staff coaching, or ongoing support depending on classroom needs. Starting at $200 for initial observations and $100 for follow up meetings/work (per hour).
